Forums are communities where people of the same interest gather together to post their questions and have likeminded people answer them. So while you're on a forum, you can post questions or answer the questions of someone else.
But very often, you can't promote your products there unless there's a marketplace category for you to do that.
If that's the case, then why did I label it as another free marketing source? That's because forums allow you to leave a signature at the end of your post, and your signature can contain a link back to your advertised product.
So when you answer questions, people will view you as an expert and want to check out the link in your signature. And that's marketing to people subtly, without looking like a spammer.
